This type is easier to identify from the smooth talking Mediocre Managers, although they can give the smooth touch when they want to. This type is the Tyrant Manager. They look for specific expertise in a new hire, then load up the worker with other jobs in the organisation soon after they arrive. They do this obviously to save money. But its deeper than that. They have total control over you. They know this as you haven’t rebelled at the first incursion of your personal space. They will give unrealistic deadlines, late nights and weekends are a common feature of this manager, whereas they themselves don’t necessarily comply. The pay is not all that great, usually just conforming to the industry standard, getting a pay rise after that is almost impossible, despite the amount of work you do.

 

They won’t change, so don’t bother trying to do that. They are very emotionally abusive. Shouting is a common strategy, curtailing wages maybe another. They control their family in the same manner. Often there will be one golden haired boy/girl and they can do no wrong in the eyes of the Tyrant Manager. They quickly learn the ways of the Tyrant and begin to follow suit.

The action that you can undertake is hand in your notice, but this can only be done when you have a job offer in writing. The reason being they will bad mouth you to anyone seeking a reference and it will be impossible for you to get other work.
