Workplace Wreckers Part 1

ree

If you are an employee or a contractor and you just can’t believe the decisions that are being made, you are in the middle of a wreck. And stupefyingly, this is created by your manager(s). The responsibility of managers is a duty of care to you and to others in the organisation. That is, to look after you. They also have the burden to serve clients and make a profit.

Let me describe the 2 most prevalent types that you will or have encountered so that you can make a decision to stay or to leave. The most frequent is the Mediocre Manager. They are two-faced, being very nice to you, but behind your back they will criticise you. Generally, there are no leaks from the inner circle so you will have no idea that this character assassination is being done. This is emotional abuse, and when it does come out you will feel hurt by what has happened to you. What causes this is that the manager concerned wants to climb up the ladder, more power and more money. There are no studies that measure this type but my educated guess is that about 50% of managers fall into this category. So chances are that you will meet up with this type.

When you realise that they have emotionally abused you, it is time to consider leaving, but you cannot do that without a written job offer in your hand. Also to get rid of the pain you need to deal with your emotions which have been hurt. Seek therapy. You can take a look at wwwvapourisetechnique.com I built this methodology for a quick and easy fix for most people when they want to change.

If you are a manager and see this behaviour happening it is time to intervene as their energy is spent on their own goals and not the organisation’s.
